Zulu Adigwe was one of Nigeria’s iconic Nollywood actors. He was born on June 27, 1945 and sadly passed away in April 23, 2024. He was both an actor and a singer. Zulu Adigwe was best known for paternal roles in Nollywood movies.
He rose to fame when he acted as Mr. B in the sitcom Basi and Company (a TV series which lasted between 1988 to 1990). Recently, he featured in the 2019 blockbuster Living in Bondage: Breaking Free taking the role of Pascal Nworie in the movie.

Early Life and Background
Zulu Adigwe was born on June 27, 1945 in Enugu, Nigeria where he spent most of his childhood living with his parents before traveling out of the country to pursue his primary and secondary school education in Austria.
Information has it that before Zulu started his acting career, he studied French and German, worked as a teacher, and briefly studied Medicine before returning to Nigeria after his father’s death. He got admission into the University of Ibadan where he studied Theatre Arts, graduating with First Class Honors.
Career
Zulu’s interest in acting began as early as when he was seven. He made his first appearance on public screen in Basi and Company where he played the lead role Mr. B, replacing former actor Albert Egbe who after having a serious dispute with the show’s creator Ken Saro Wiwa left the series.
As the new Mr. B, Zulu was a lazy guitarist who sang songs about getting rich quickly. He also performed the theme song for Basi and Company, and an album called Mr. B Makes His Millions was released by Polygram Nigeria in 1990.
In 1991, Adigwe was in the original cast of Checkmate, playing a sleazy university lecturer named Monday Edem in the pilot episode, but the role was recast when production moved from Enugu to Lagos.
His first movie was Blood of the Orphan, which made him well-known. In 2004, he starred in Living Abroad, directed by Elvis Chuks, alongside Ernest Asuzu, Emeka Enyiocha, and Anne Njemanze. In 2019, Adigwe played Pascal Nworie in Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.

Death
The veteran Nollywood actor and singer, Zulu Adigwe, died on April 23, 2024, two weeks after the death of Junior Pope, one of Nigeria’s notable figures in the Nollywood industry. The demise of the veteran actor was confirmed by movie producer, Stanley Nwoko, via a post on his Instagram page, without disclosing the cause of his death.
“I regret to announce the passing of a veteran actor, late Mr Zulu Adigwe. What caused his death is yet to be reviewed. Rest in peace good actor,”
