Early Life and Education
Dr. Ikemba Iweala was born on September 3, 1948. He is currently 75 years old as of the time of writing. He hails from Umuahia, the capital of Abia State. Ikemba received his early education in Nigeria, from primary school through university.
He studied medicine at the University of Ibadan in western Nigeria. After completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he served as the center physician at the Rural Health Center in Igbaja, Kwara State.
Career
Ikemba furthered his medical training abroad. He trained in General Surgery/Trauma and Neurosurgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and other hospitals in England. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Society of Medicine.
After completing his training, he practiced briefly at the University College Hospital in Ibadan before moving to the University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore. He also worked as a clinical instructor in Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC.
Philanthropy
Dr. Ikemba Iweala is known for his charitable work in the country. He is the chairman of the IKE Foundation for Autism (IFA), a non-profit organization he established in 2008. The foundation helps people with autism spectrum disorder to reach their full potential and live productive lives.

Family Life
Dr. Ikemba is married to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and together, both couples are blessed with four children: one daughter, Onyinye Iweala, and three sons, Uzodinma Iweala, Okechukwu Iweala, and Uchechi Iweala.
Their daughter Onyinye Iweala is an assistant professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology, allergy, and immunology. Uzodinma Iweala is an award-winning author and medical doctor. His first novel, Beasts of No Nation, was published in 2005 and later adapted into a film that premiered on Netflix in 2015.
Okechukwu Iweala on the other hand, is a graduate of Social Studies from Harvard University whereas, Uchechi Iweala is an orthopedic surgeon and spine surgery specialist.
