Kwaku Bediako Oduro was born on 7 May 1986 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria before his parents moved to Ghana where he had both his primary and secondary school education.
He attended the University of Ghana Primary School Legion and then proceeded to Achimota School for his high school education. With the help of his parents, he was able to further his academics at the University of Ghana where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Archaeology and Information Studies.
Career
After graduating from the University of Ghana, Kwaku founded Checkmates, a company offering marketing and business idea services. Initially a scriptwriter, he shifted to fashion design after meeting Mr. Philip Ayesu of GM Multiproconcepts and the CEO of XMEN Grooming through Checkmates.
In March 2013, he established Chocolate Clothes, now Chocolate Clothes Global, which began as a women’s clothing line and expanded into men’s wear and accessories.
The company was incorporated in 2018 and now handles up to 1000 orders every month. Kwaku named his brand Chocolate Clothes Global to highlight the quality of Ghanaian and African products, aiming to change the perception of items made in Ghana. Kwaku won the Best Fashion Designer of the Year award at the 2018 EMY Africa Awards and the first Tailored African Fashion 2018, earning a trip to Paris to speak at the Change Now Summit and visit Louis Vuitton. His designs were also featured at Paris Fashion Week.
